Away Greens

Albany

Southdale Road, Rock Ferry, CH42 3XW

Down an alleyway next door to No. 42, follow it right then look for a gate to the green on the left. Parking not great but usually find somewhere in Southdale Road - but sometimes unpopular with some residents!

Birkenhead Park SC

Laird St, Birkenhead

Head up Conway St from Birkenhead bus station until you reach Park Rd North with Birkenhead Park on your left. The greens are on your left before you get to the traffic lights near Park Station. There's a bus stop next to the pavilion and plenty of parking on Park Rd North.

Bromborough Pool - See Port Sunlight V&W (both greens together)

Bromborough Recs

Entering Bromborough Village past Matalan, turn down right buy the Cross into The Rake. Cross over the mini roundabout and about 150m later turn right at the park (convenience store on the corner left). The green is in the diagonally opposite corner and if you drive around the two sides of the park you'll find a small parking area just short of the green.

Gladstone

Green No. 3, Victoria Park, Bebington Road, Higher Tranmere

Park, hopefully, somewhere by the shops between the two roundabouts either end of the park in Bebington Road. The green is tucked behind the tall block of flats in the park grounds. Entry to the green via the pathway behind the flats on entering the park opposite the shops.

Great Meols

School Lane, Meols.

Through Moreton on Birkenhead Road you come to Meols, first the railway station on your right then the imposing Railway pub also on your right. Take Brosters Lane, the first road right after the pub, then right again at the junction with School Lane. The green is on the left opposite the park.

Harrison Park

Harrison Drive, Wallasey, CH45 3HR

The best parking requires a walk across the park. Take the M53 coming off at B&Q. Head to New Brighton on A554 (Bayswater Road). At the mini roundabout take the second exit to Harrison Drive then after crossing the railway line  take the track left (dead end) and park where you can. Now head for the hills - literally - the greens are behind them across the park. Harrison Park have the end right green.

Heswall

Heswall RBL, 78 Pensby Rd, Heswall, Wirral CH60 7RF

On the left as you approach Heswall from Pensby, just before the Heswall shops begin. Signposted. Plenty of parking.

Kendal

Birkenhead Park, Green No.5

Head up out of Birkenhead centre on Conway St int Park Road North where the Park (greens clearly visible) is on your left. Park near the bus stop which is near the gate to the greens and clubhouse.

Hoylake Central & Melrose

Carham Road, Hoylake

Two approaches. At the Kings Gap roundabout head towards Hoylake station (Carr Lane) across the level crossing into the industrial estate. Take the second left into Carham Rd and follow round to the end. The green is next door to the rugby club.

Alternatively, drive along Market St and take the 4th on the right, Melrose Ave, and park at the end. Walk across the level crossing (watch out for trains...) and you're there.

Lord Napier

Follow the instructions for Gladstone but on entering Victoria Park take the path through the gate on the left, rather than right, to green number 1 at the end of the path.

Liscard

Central Park, Liscard Rd, Wallasey

The best approach (possibly) is to head for Love Lane in Wallasey. Cross at the Duke St bridge, straight over to the roundabout then off along Gorsey Lane. Keep on across Poulton Road into Oxton Road then take the next right into Love Lane by the primary school. This is a cul-de-sac but has good parking possibilities. If you take the walkway at the end of the road it brings you out at some greens - Liscard’s is one of them!

Marine Park

Kings Parade, New Brighton

Opposite Morrisons (For Parking) along the front. Cross over and access via steps.

Neston

Neston Civic Hall Hinderton Road Neston CH64 9PE

Head off to Chester on the A540 (Chester High Road) until you reach the traffic lights at The Hinderton Arms (on your right). Turn right into Hinderton Road and head down to Neston. As soon as you see the railway bridge ahead you'll find the green with small carpark on your left at the Civic Hall. If full the British Legion car park is next down the road.

New Brighton Quarry Vikings

New Brighton Cricket and Bowls club, Rake Lane, CH45 5DE

Head to Liscard via the Wallasey Bridge Road (past Poulton Vics Sports Club) along Mill Lane. Follow the one-way system thro' Liscard Village, past Manor Road on your right then straight into into Rake Lane. Thr NBCC is on your left soon after.

Oxton Conservative Club

Village Road, Oxton, Birkenhead, CH43 5SR

The club and green are sandwiched between Village Road and Willan St, both of which run off Rose Mount in the centre of Oxton village. There is parking in both streets and an entrance in the wall to the green in both roads. Parking can be difficult as Oxton is popular amongst visitors.

Pensby

408 Pensby Rd, Heswall, Birkenhead, Wirral CH61 9PE

At Pensby Recreation Centre near the junction of Gills Lane (starts down in the dip near The Fox and Hounds) and Pensby Road. Good-sized car park on Pensby Road just after turning right off Gills lane at the traffic lights.

Poulton

178 Mill Lane, WALLASEY, CH44 3BP

Head to Liscard via the Wallasey Bridge Road (past Poulton Vics Sports Club) along Mill Lane. Not far after the first set of lights look for a high wall with a gate/door in it. Steps go up from the door to the green. Park anywhere you can either side of the road.

Port Sunlight Village & Works

Bolton Rd, Port Sunlight, CH62 4UJ

Drive along Bolton Road and you can’t miss it. Opposite Hulme Hall. Park where you can.

Prenton Bowling Club

63 Prenton Road West, Birkenhead CH42 9PZ

From Tranmere Rovers go up hill in St Stephens church direction 100 yards before traffic lights and just after telephone exchange turn left into club access road. If you turn before tel exchange you end up in the allotments. I've already done the joke about the greens being just as good there - so don't bother.

Royden Hall

Frankby Road, Wirral CH48 1PP

As you head towards West Kirby on Frankby Road, just before the bend right and the junction with Hillbark Road there’s a ‘cut-back’ track and a cluster of buildings (The Nook) on the left. Follow the track to a car park and green.

Thingwall

The Recreational Centre, Sparks Lane, Thingwall, Wirral, CH61 7XE

Sparks Lane runs between Pensby Road and Barnston Road. Approaching from the Landican Road roundabout then Pensby Road, Sparks Lane is on the left as Pensby Road turns sharp right. The Recreation Centre is down a driveway on the right about halfway down Sparks Lane ( just after Nurse Road on the left ). It’s signposted. Parking at the bottom of the drive is tight but usually copes.

Tixall

Heathfield Rd, Birkenhead, CH43 5RT

From The Halfway House at the end of Storeton Road turn right at the lights then branch left at the next set into Woodchurch Rd. Continue until you pass the primary school (Woodchurch Road)on your right. Shortly after turn right into Bessborough Rd and the green is up an ‘alley’ on your left. The approach is steep with limited parking at the green.  Park nearby and walk or drive up the alley and take your chance!

Upton Victory Hall

Upton Victory Hall, Salacre Lane, Upton, Wirral CH49 0TL

The best approach is probably via Arrowe Park Road past Arrowe Park Hospital towards Upton. Go straight over the Sainsbury’s roundabout into Upton village. Turn right at the lights then right again at the Eagle and Crown (on the right) into Rake Lane. Parking for Upton Victory Hall is on the left (signposted).

Withens Lane

3 Withens Lane, CH44 1BB, Wallasey (British Legion)

Many ways to get there. Just one suggested route. Take the ‘Four Bridges’ route across to Wallasey, turn right at the roundabout and immediately left into Kelvin Road. Follow the road until you reach Central Park on your left then just before the park runs out, opposite a bus stop, turn right into Martins Lane which continues into Withens Lane. The BL club and green is just after the Primrose Pub on the LHS of the road. there seems to be a carpark and some road parking available.
