About Us

Thank you for visiting the Port Sunlight Village and Works Bowling Club website.

Who are we

We are a friendly group of men and women of various ages from all types of back grounds united in our love of the sport of Crown Green Bowling.

We have over sixty members but we very much welcome new members, of any age or gender, whether they be experienced players or complete beginners.

Our philosophy as a club is that we want to be as competitive as we can possibly be but our main aim is to enjoy bowling and each others company.
Where do we play

We are based in Port Sunlight Village, on Bolton Road, and play our bowls on a green which in our opinion, has one of the best settings on the Wirral. Many of our members are within walking distance of the green, for those that are not we are within a 3 minute walk of Port Sunlight Rail Station and there is ample street parking for those that travel by car.

What standard do we play at

For those players that wish to compete at league level we have three teams in the Bebington and District evening league, two teams in the Birkenhead and Wirral evening league, two teams in the veterans afternoon league and three teams in the Ellesmere Port veterans afternoon league. The evening leagues are open to all but the afternoon league is presently only open to bowlers of 55 years or older.

Whilst a lot of activity is centred around the league teams we do set aside time for members to practice, take part in social bowling and partake in introductory sessions.

What facilities do we have

Just off the green we have access to kitchen facilities for tea and coffee making, access to toilet facilities and we are less than a long bowl away from the Lyceum which offers beer and wine during and after the bowls session.

When do we play

The green is open from the beginning of April until the end of September.
Most weeks during the season there is league bowling on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings Monday, Wednesday or Friday afternoons.

Social bowling and practice sessions happen on Sunday evenings additionally some social bowling is played on evenings when league games are not being played. the times when the green is being used for league games is shown on the tab "Green usage"

What do we offer new bowlers

The sport and our club are keen to attract new members, during our social bowling sessions on Sunday evenings we welcome anybody that has not played before and offer an opportunity to take part in free introductory sessions to learn the basics of Crown Green Bowls. Players can then choose to become members of Port Sunlight V&W, any other club or none at all.

What equipment is needed
If you are a new bowler taking part in our introductory sessions all you will need is flat soled footwear and clothing suitable for outdoor activity we will provide the bowling equipment.

If you want to continue bowling after your introductory sessions the club has several sets of bowls that can be bought at a reasonable cost.

What does it cost

Membership of the club is £25 per year, players who play for the club in league matches pay £2 per game but they also need to be a member of the British Crown Green Bowls Association which costs a one off fee of £20.

How do you contact us
